3 Days in Doha

Three days is enough to see the version of Doha most people fly in for: the old souq and the Corniche, the run of world-class museums, and one day out in the dunes. This splits it so you're never crossing the city twice in a day.

Best for: First-timers with a long weekendPace: Full but not rushed — one big thing per half-day, meals in between

Day 1 · Old Doha and the Corniche

  1. Morning

    Souq Waqif heritage walk

Things to do · Souq Waqif

Start in the restored lanes of the old market before it gets hot — spice stalls, falcon souq, and the small heritage museums tucked off the main run.

  2. Lunch

    Shay Al Shomous

    Restaurant · Souq Waqif

A tiny, long-running spot inside Souq Waqif doing the Qatari home cooking most visitors never get to try.

  3. Afternoon

    Museum of Islamic Art

    Museum · Doha Corniche

I.M. Pei's last museum, a ten-minute walk along the water from the souq. The permanent collection alone is worth two hours.

  4. Evening

    Traditional dhow sunset cruise

Things to do · Dhow Harbour, Corniche

Walk or cycle the Corniche as the skyline lights up, then a dhow out on the bay for the classic first-night view of the city.

Day 2 · Modern Qatar

  1. Morning

    National Museum of Qatar

    Museum · Doha Corniche

Jean Nouvel's desert-rose building wrapped around the old Amiri Palace — eleven galleries tracing the country's story. Give it the morning.

  2. Midday

    Msheireb Museums

    Museum · Msheireb Downtown Doha

The Msheireb Museums sit in four restored heritage houses covering Doha's social history, including the hard parts. Small, sharp, and free.

  3. Afternoon

Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art

    Museum · Education City

Mathaf holds the region's most serious collection of modern Arab art — a different register from the two national museums, and rarely crowded.

  4. Evening

    The Pearl waterfront evening

Things to do · The Pearl-Qatar

Dinner and a walk around the marina and lagoon on The Pearl — the polished, built-from-scratch side of the city.

Day 3 · Into the desert

  1. Full day

    Inland Sea dune safari

Things to do · Khor Al Adaid

A guided run out to the Inland Sea, where the dunes meet the Saudi border and the water. Dune driving, a stop for swimming, and back by evening.

  2. Late afternoon

    Sealine Sand Dunes

    Things to do · Mesaieed

If you'd rather stay closer, the Sealine dunes do the same golden-hour payoff with a shorter drive.
