Lusail Winter Wonderland opens its new season, QUBE marks 20 years with DJ Reman, Uzbekistan's heritage comes to the Museum of Islamic Art and free camel racing continues at Al-Shahaniya: what's on in Doha this Friday and Saturday.
The headline event of the weekend is the opening of Lusail Winter Wonderland's fifth season: the winter theme park at Al Maha Island, Lusail, returns with more than 100 rides, family attractions, dining and live entertainment. It opens for the evening on both Friday and Saturday (generally Tuesday to Saturday evenings, closed Sunday and Monday except on selected holidays); entry starts from around QAR 75, with higher unlimited-ride packages, and tickets are on sale on Platinumlist.
For a big night out, QUBE at the Radisson Blu Hotel Doha marks its 20th anniversary with Romanian Afro House DJ Reman headlining, supported by a line-up of resident DJs, the Girlzink Band and an LED drummer. Doors open at 7pm; it's 18 and over, smart-casual dress (abayas, national dress, open footwear and overly revealing clothing aren't permitted), and a valid Qatar ID or passport is required at the door. It's also the last chance to catch Silent Sky, The Doha Players' staging of Lauren Gunderson's play about astronomer Henrietta Leavitt, at their Community Theatre in Mesaimeer — doors at 7pm, curtain up at 7:30pm.
Saturday is the final day of the 1st Qatar ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors at Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex — a week of junior ranking matches, free to watch. At Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, the Qom'a community sculpture sessions run again at 2pm and 3pm, where visitors help build a giant palm-fibre papier-mâché artwork aiming for a Guinness World Record. It's free, but registration is mandatory; the registration link is on the event page.
Saturday is also the last day of the Pink Walk, Aspire Zone's month-long breast-cancer-awareness walk through Aspire Park; it's free to join.
Families can drop into the ExxonMobil STEAM Festival at the National Museum of Qatar, where 90-minute science, tech, engineering, art and maths sessions run for children up to 16: Friday at 1:30pm and 4pm, Saturday at 9:30am, 12pm and 2:30pm. Tickets are required and booked through Qatar Museums' festival ticketing page. At the Museum of Islamic Art, Uzbekistan: Heritage in Motion brings together 140 objects from 13 Uzbek museums tracing the country's Islamic-era history, alongside Ektashif Uzbekistan, new work by Qatari artists responding to a study trip to Uzbekistan. Both are included with museum admission, which can be booked online in advance.
The Third Local Camel Race also continues at Al-Shahaniya Camel Racetrack, free to watch, as camel owners and trainers from across Qatar compete through to 26 October.
