Souq Waqif

Souq Waqif sits on the site of a market at least a century old, originally where Bedouin traders gathered near the Wadi Musheireb riverbed; the district was largely destroyed by fire in 2003 and rebuilt in traditional late-19th/early-20th-century style by 2008. It houses the Bismillah Hotel — reputedly Qatar's first hotel — plus a falcon souq, a bird market, gold and textile traders, and the 980-seat Al Rayyan Theatre.
