Old Amiri Palace

Built as both home and seat of government for Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani, the palace briefly served as Qatar's first national museum before Jean Nouvel's discs were built to encircle it. Its restoration won an Aga Khan Award — a rare case of a historic building becoming the anchor of a brand-new one.
