Editor's PickGood for GroupsNational Museum of Qatar
You'll see the building in every photo of Doha's skyline before you ever set foot in it — a cluster of interlocking discs modeled on the desert rose crystal formation, wrapped around the restored palace of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani. Inside, the permanent galleries run chronologically from Qatar's geology and pre-Islamic history through pearling, the oil era, and into the present, using immersive video walls and soundscapes rather than static glass cases — the pearling and pre-oil economy rooms in particular are worth slowing down for. Budget at least two to three hours if you want to actually read the wall text instead of speed-walking it, and check ahead since a few galleries rotate through maintenance closures.
