Established in 2005 and UNESCO-recognized in 2007, Al Reem Biosphere Reserve covers roughly 1,190 square kilometers of northwest Qatar's semi-arid desert and coast, sheltering reintroduced Arabian oryx, gazelles, foxes and nesting sea turtles along its shoreline. The terrain is mostly flat and walkable, threaded with low-impact trails past eroded rock outcrops and scattered acacia, but there's no shade or facilities, so early morning or late afternoon visits are essential in warmer months. It's one of the few places in Qatar where you can genuinely hike in silence for an hour without seeing another person.
