East-West/West-East (Richard Serra)

Commissioned by Qatar Museums and completed in 2014, East-West/West-East consists of four weathered steel plates set roughly a kilometer apart across the Brouq Nature Reserve's gypsum plateau. Two plates stand 48 feet 3 inches tall and two stand 56 feet 10 inches tall, each height calibrated to the surrounding limestone outcrops so the plates read as level against the horizon despite the desert's uneven grade.
