Barzan Towers

The older western tower went up in the late 19th century as a watchtower for the Umm Salal Mohammed fort complex; the eastern one was added around 1910 to match its height. Beyond keeping watch on the coast, the towers were also used historically for lunar observation during Ramadan — a small detail that makes the visit stick, though as of recent reports the site is under restoration with no confirmed reopening date.
